Enlisted Proceeded to France Wounded at Hazebrouck and invalided home Returned to the Front Killed in action The 2nd Seaforth Highlanders received order , 25 april 1915, to retake St. Julien which had been captured by the enemy the previous day. The attack was pushed up to the very edge of the houses, when it was checked by a murderous maxim gun fire. Sergeant McKenzie was mortally wounded and died the follwoing day. He was buried near a burned farmhouse to the left of the St. Jan - St. Julien road, 1000 yards south of St. Julien. |

Enlisted in the Seaforth Highlanders and served with the Battalion through the South African Campaign at received the Queen's medal with 3 clasps and King's medal with 2 clasps. (1899-1902) After this campaign transferred to the 1st Battalion in India. Obtained his discharge and joined the Reserve Was called up on mobilisation and rejoined the 2nd Battalion. Proceeded to France with the Battalion Killed in action at St. Julien while acting as an orderly to the Captain of 'B' Coy. He was buried near the farm where he fell. He was a good all-round sportsman ; was a marksman , a great footballer and a member of the Regimental XI when they were the champions in India. |
