In the trenches at Le Touquet , right side of Plug Street Wood , Messines sector .
He had just gone into the frontline when he was killed outright by a piece of shell hit in the head.
Private Stewart helped him carry to the Dressing Station.

Location : Le Touquet trenches.
Enemy snipers very busy , Lew is guns and machine guns fixed in position for expected raid of enemy.
Enemy shelling consistently and registered on Bn. HQ.
