'For conspicious gallantry and devotion to duty.
While under heavy machine gun and shell fire which had knocked out the whole of his detachment, except one gunner , he kept his gun in action , displaying the greatest coolness and courgae throughout .
He was slightly wounded at the time and had to be ordered away from the position to have his wounds dressed.
