AIF : Location : Ploegsteert 'I was in a supporting patrol to a bombing party under Lieutenant Jameson on the night of 4th April 1917. They got up to Fritz's wire and two bombs were thrown over by our patrol into their trenches , when a revolver shot from the Germans hit him in the forehead . He was carried back by a man from the fighting patrol and died in our own trenches. He was my platoon officer and one of the very best.' |
