Educated at Malvern Link ; Eton and at Hertford College , Oxford, out of which he passed first of the University candidates for the Army
At Eton he was in the Mixed Wall XI and ninth man for the Eights.
While at Oxford obtained an Exhibition at Hertford College ; rowed in the winning Four in the University race and afterwards sixth in the Eights until he broke down with jaundice, and rowed in the finals at Henley for the Grand Challenge Cup in 1899.

Served during the South Africa War where he won the King's and Queen's Medal with 5 clasps
Retired from the Army
Rejoined the Leicestershire Regiment with the rank of Major
Served in France and Flanders , subsequently proceeded to Saloniki as Commanding Officer of the Connaught Rangers
Invalided home and on recovery returned to France
Killed in action
