In spite of being subjected to very heavy hostile fire, he continued to fire his gun with the assistance of one gunner.
He set a magnificent example to his men'
Died of wounds received the same day near Ypres
His Colonel wrote:
' He was the very best of comrades and a very gallant officer.
I expect you heard how he won the MC.
It was a splendid piece of work, firing the gun himself under very heavy fire, after sending the detchament into a place of safety.'
