Killed in action A witness account of his death : ' Duncan McLaren , 5th Platoon , was killed at the catacombs Ploegsteert. A group of 12 or 14 were outside at the entrance and a shell landed amongst them about 4pm. He died about 5pm. I was about 50 yards away getting ready to go on guard. Someone told me my mate was in it and I went over. McLaren was too far gone to recognize me. He was hit , I believe , in the groin or top of the leg. He died after I left.' |
